- Midwifery Center at DePaul Hospital (Norfolk, VA – 1 hr drive. When searching for more information, be sure to distinguish between the Midwifery Center at DePaul and the DePaul Center for Birth — though they are in the same building, they are separate entities. The Midwifery Center is for low-risk, 100% natural childbirths attended by certified nurse midwives (CNMs); the Center for Birth is the hospital’s Labor and Delivery Unit and is for all births, which are attended by OBs and CNMs. The Midwifery Center at DePaul does not permit water birth for first-time mothers. Mothers birthing at the Midwifery Center at DePaul are required to have doula care.)
